From Jizzakh to Manhattan: The Professional Journey of Uzbek Lawyer Aziza Rajabova
Manhattan is the heart of New York. Decisions made in its skyscrapers become reality, and time is measured in seconds. In this fast-paced environment, there is a young woman who may appear delicate and calm at first glance, yet possesses immense inner strength – Aziza Rajabova, a lawyer from Jizzakh.
At first glance, what stands out most about her is her natural modesty and composed demeanor. Yet tastefully dressed, with confident steps – behind these outward traits lies a self-aware individual who, despite her youth, deeply understands life. In her gaze, the lessons of the past, the responsibilities of the present, and confidence in the future harmonize.
As the conversation continues, this impression becomes even clearer. Aziza chooses each word carefully. There is no haste in her, yet determination remains. This calmness is the result of upbringing, hard work, and discipline.
She was born in Jizzakh, Uzbekistan, and studied at School No. 19 until the 7th grade, then continued her education at School No. 5. She grew up in an ordinary family. Yet beneath this simplicity lay great dedication. Her father, Sayfiddin Chaqqonov, served in various government institutions, while her mother, Gulhan Avalboyeva, set aside her own dreams to support her children’s education.
“Our achievements are the result of our parents’ tireless work”, says Aziza.
She is the youngest of three children in the family. Her brother, Yorqinbek Rajabov, is a Doctor of Philosophy in technical sciences and a vice-rector. Her sister, Gulhayo Hasanova, is an endocrinologist and a teacher. In this household, education was not a choice but a necessity.
Books shaped Aziza’s childhood. When textbooks were scarce, her mother would hand-copy them for her through the night. This was not merely care but a belief in the value of knowledge. That is why education became the essence of her life.
At school, she was known not only for her excellent grades but also for being a creative and active student. She wrote poetry, participated in competitions, and achieved high results at the national level in the “Enlightenment Against Ignorance” contest.
Her teacher, history instructor Sofiya Tagirovna Efendiyeva, recalls her as follows:
“Aziza was a knowledge-seeking, inquisitive, and highly disciplined student. Her questions were profound, and her thinking was independent. Even then, I felt her future would be bright”.
This aspiration led her to the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. Despite strong competition, she secured a place among the top students. Then came an even greater path: studying abroad and receiving scholarships from prestigious universities...
In 2022, she flew to the other side of the world to begin a new life.
However, living abroad is not only an opportunity but also a challenge.
“When you are far from home, no one will pat your head and call you ‘my child’”, she says. “Every decision is yours alone”.
The first years were not easy. Homesickness, an unfamiliar environment, an incomprehensible way of life… For a long time, she could not even eat properly. It turns out that longing can even alter the sense of taste. The dream of a single slice of melon became an entire homeland. In those moments, she felt Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur more deeply and the lines he wrote out of longing for his homeland. Homeland, she realized, is a taste, a memory – the most painful and the most sacred place in the heart.
However, these challenges did not break her. On the contrary, they strengthened her.
Having completed a master’s degree in law on a scholarship at Pennsylvania State University, Aziza now works at the Ballon Stoll P.C. law firm in Manhattan. While providing legal services across various fields, she is particularly attentive to the well-being of her compatriots abroad.
“Law is not just legislation. It is trust”, she says. “Behind every document, there is a person”.
Social media activist Oybek Alijonov says the following regarding Aziza Rajabova:
“Aziza is the bright future of our Uzbekistan. She is one of our young people shining brightly in the skies of the United States. She is a source of pride not only for Jizzakh but for all of Uzbekistan”.
Aziza’s academic research is also in step with the times. Her main areas of focus include artificial intelligence, personal data security, and human rights in the digital world.
“Today, data is part of a person. Protecting it means protecting the individual”, she says.
Her philosophy of life is simple: “Do not take what belongs to others”. This advice was passed down to her by her grandfather, and she has made it a guiding principle.
Aziza Rajabova is a vivid embodiment of today’s youth. In her, knowledge, determination, and humanity are harmoniously combined.
In her Manhattan office, she opens yet another document. Perhaps behind that document lies someone’s fate, someone’s hope.
At that moment, you realize: this girl from Jizzakh has not only achieved success.
She has transformed longing into strength and dreams into results, becoming a voice for Uzbekistan and elevating her homeland’s name on the global stage.
