On April 5-9, Tashkent will host the 150th IPU Assembly, which is expected to contribute to the transformation of Uzbekistan into a key center of interparliamentary diplomacy.

Deputy of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Gulchehra Tojiboyeva, expressed her opinion on the significance of this prestigious event, which is devoted to the 150th anniversary of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.:

– The holding of the IPU Assembly in Uzbekistan is not only of political importance, but also a recognition of the international authority of Uzbekistan, the policy of openness and peace-loving initiatives. This is the first time in the history of Uzbekistan that such a major international parliamentary event has been held. This is a vivid expression of trust and respect for the country. As a result of the open foreign policy led by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan is becoming a platform for regional cooperation and inter-parliamentary dialogue.

Uzbekistan has been a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union since 1992. Despite the suspension of membership in 2007, the country resumed its activities following the results of the 137th Assembly in October 2017. Since 2021, Uzbekistan has been actively participating in the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Current global issues of interparliamentary cooperation, peace, security, climate change, women’s rights, and youth participation will be discussed during the event. Delegates, senators, and speakers will meet in Tashkent to exchange experiences and opinions on improving international legislation. The forum will provide an opportunity not only for political dialogue, but also for demonstrating the historical heritage, modern development and hospitality of Uzbekistan. The delegations can get acquainted with the history, culture, and achievements of the peoples of Central Asia.

The Forum of Women Parliamentarians will celebrate its 40th anniversary within the framework of the Assembly. With the accession of the Belize Parliament, the number of member states of the union is expected to reach 182.

Historical and cultural excursions, presentations on the historical heritage and modern life of Uzbekistan, and special attention to women and youth will be organized for participants of the prestigious event. As a result, the international community can become aware of our achievements in the socio-cultural sphere.

The prestigious events expected in 2025 will allow Uzbekistan to demonstrate its active role not only as a host country, but also as a participant in the global political dialogue. This will undoubtedly strengthen our country’s position in the international arena and mark a significant step towards peace and development.
