Once again, the world’s attention is focused on Uzbekistan.

From April 5 to 9, the country is hosting the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

UzA correspondent spoke with Ulan Primov, Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security, and Migration of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, to hear his thoughts on this international event.

“Under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan is strengthening political dialogue and economic ties with other countries and international organizations”, said Ulan Primov. “A trilateral meeting was recently held in Khujand between the leaders of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Based on mutual trust and strong friendship, the meeting resulted in the signing of a historic agreement on the junction of state borders and the adoption of a Joint Declaration by the heads of state. Furthermore, the first ‘Central Asia – European Union’ summit was held in Samarkand, and now the Assembly is taking place in Tashkent – evidence of Uzbekistan’s growing authority on the international stage. This event focuses on strengthening attention to social justice, equality, inclusive development, and human rights worldwide. Participants are discussing key issues, including the protection of women’s and children’s rights, labor rights, the right to production, poverty alleviation, and achieving sustainable development.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), with its mission to promote peace through parliamentary diplomacy and dialogue, has evolved into a truly global community comprising over 180 member parliaments and 15 associate members. Member parliaments and their representatives uphold high values, encourage cooperation, and foster dialogue among all nations. The voice of the IPU is being heard more prominently around the world. The activities of this organization clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the principles of modern international relations. The Assembly serves as a global platform for dialogue among the legislative bodies of various countries, and the important issues currently under discussion are being brought to the attention of the international community. It presents an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and to find solutions to both global and regional challenges. All of this enhances Uzbekistan’s role as a reliable political partner in the region.

Following the event, a final document is expected to be adopted, outlining the medium- and long-term priority areas for the global parliamentary movement. This will mark yet another bold step toward building a peaceful and stable future”.
