Uzbekistan’s achievements recognized
Belgrade hosted the IPU Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians.
The event was attended by 427 delegates from 65 countries, representatives of international organizations, and experts.
The opening ceremony featured speeches from IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong, IPU President Tulia Ackson, Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabić, and representatives of the Serbian government.

The participants discussed issues related to ensuring gender equality, expanding women’s participation in decision-making processes, and eliminating social and institutional barriers that hinder equal opportunities in the political sphere.
According to IPU data, as of the beginning of the year, women held an average of 27.5 percent of seats in national parliaments, underscoring the need to strengthen efforts in this area.
Speaking at the plenary session, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva, noted that, under the leadership of the President, ensuring gender equality has become one of the country’s priorities in state policy. Detailed information was provided on the reforms underway in this area.

The Senate Chairperson emphasized that eliminating gender stereotypes is essential to sustainable development and effective public administration, and noted the need to expand the exchange of experience among parliaments and to introduce effective legislative mechanisms.
Conference participants positively assessed the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to ensure gender equality, particularly the practice of appointing women to leadership positions with state support, and emphasized the importance of studying and promoting this experience at the international level.

Representatives of the parliaments of several countries shared their experience in advancing gender equality and provided information on achievements and challenges in expanding women’s roles in society and public administration. The participants emphasized the importance of involving state bodies, especially governments, in this process and agreed on the need to strengthen interparliamentary solidarity to overcome gender stereotypes and negative social norms.
