Samarkand hosted an international workshop on “Socio-economic position of women and trade union actions to implement gender equality approaches”.

The event, held by the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan, was attended by deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, officials of the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan, representatives of the International Labour Organization, the International Trade Union Confederation, the General Confederation of Trade Unions and trade unions of foreign countries.

The agenda included such issues as providing information on the experience of Uzbekistan on participation of trade unions in implementation of gender equality in employment, improving social discussions in the future to fully implement the basic standards, relevant technical conventions and recommendations that ensure equal rights and opportunities in labor and employment, International Labour Organization, as well as the study of international experience in this field. The participants in their reports noted the experience accumulated in Uzbekistan, expressed their opinions and suggestions.

Deputy of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan D.Fayziyeva, Deputy Chairman of the Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan M.Nurmatova spoke about improving the legislation in the field of ensuring the socio-economic rights of women in the country, the experience in ensuring gender equality.

In turn, opinions on the position of international trade unions in ensuring gender equality in the world and region, gender aspects of social protection policy were expressed by the expert of the International Trade Union Confederation Goda Neverauskaite, expert on social issues of the International Labour Organization Jasmina Papa.

Following the workshop, recommendations were adopted based on the views expressed.
