Seattle Mayor Katie B. Wilson has officially declared September 1, 2026, as Uzbekistan Independence Day in the city. This is stated in a formal proclamation signed by the Mayor.
The document notes that since independence, Uzbekistan has strengthened its sovereignty, ensured sustainable development, and implemented large-scale reforms. It also highlights that Uzbekistan is the most populous country in Central Asia.
The country’s economy is growing by about 5-6 percent annually. The proclamation also underscores Uzbekistan’s commitment to developing open markets and to international partnerships.
The proclamation highlights the country’s location at the heart of the ancient Silk Road and its role as a gateway to a region with a consumer market of more than 100 million people.
