On June 22, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong.

Mr. Martin Chungong visits Uzbekistan to attend the International Forum of the Global Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The issues of further enhancing the partnership of Uzbekistan with IPU were considered.

The President of Uzbekistan emphasized the importance of continuing a constructive dialogue and close interaction in such priority areas as promoting socio-economic reforms and deepening democratic reforms, protecting human rights, ensuring gender equality and supporting youth.

It should be noted that in 2017 Uzbekistan resumed participation in the work of the union and today is fully represented in its executive structures. This year, the Oliy Majlis adopted a separate document on strengthening multifaceted relations with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

In turn, Secretary General Martin Chungong emphasized the progress in the development of parliamentarism in Uzbekistan, highly appreciated and supported the global initiatives of Uzbekistan in this sphere.

An agreement was reached on joint preparation and holding several international events to widely exchange advanced foreign experience and unlock the great potential of multilateral cooperation.
