A photo exhibition dedicated to the 1050th anniversary of the great thinker and scientist Abu Rayhan Beruni’s birth has been opened at Tashkent House of Photography.

The event is organized by the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan National News Agency – UzA, and the National Archive of Film and Photo Documents of Uzbekistan.

Abu Rayhan Beruni was one of the great geniuses of the Middle Ages. The encyclopedic scientist and thinker became the author of numerous significant works on history, geography, philology, astronomy, mathematics, mechanics, geodesy, mineralogy, pharmacology, geology, and other areas. Beruni’s works are still actively studied by various scientific centers, universities, and academic circles.

Beruni consistently studied the rich science and culture of the East. As a poet and literary critic mastered not only his native, but also Arabic, Sogdian, Persian, Syriac, Greek, and Hebrew languages. He lived in India for some time, where he also learned Sanskrit.

He left a tremendous scientific legacy, having written more than 160 papers in various fields of science of his time.

The exhibition presents the work of Uzbekistan National News Agency photojournalists on “Abu Rayhan Beruni”. As well as shots from the film “Abu Rayhan Beruni” from the National Archive of Film and Photo Documents of Uzbekistan, recreating the personality and activities of our countryman, demonstrating the monument to Abu Rayhan Beruni in the city of Beruni, the streets bearing his name in Tashkent. It also presents photographs of professors and students, scientific activities of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after Abu Rayhan Beruni of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and samples of archival photocopies of portraits and busts of the great scientist.
