“Abu Rayhon Beruni. Geographical and Intellectual Journeys”

The UzA creative team covered the “Abu Rayhon Beruni. Geographical and Intellectual Journeys” exhibition in Paris.

Currently, special attention is paid to the in-depth study and broad promotion at the international level of the scientific and enlightenment heritage of the great scientist and encyclopedist Abu Rayhon Beruni, who made an invaluable contribution to world civilization, to further enhancing scientific and cultural ties between Uzbekistan and UNESCO.

By the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On supporting the establishment of the International Award of UNESCO – Uzbekistan named after Abu Rayhon Beruni” of August 25, 2023, on September 4-8, events are held in Paris within the framework of a new international project of the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan under the slogan “Abu Rayhon Beruni. Geographical and Intellectual Journeys”.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition dedicated to the 1050th Anniversary of the thinker’s birth was attended by the Chairperson of the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan Gayane Umerova, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for Culture Ernesto Ottone Ramirez, Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan Bahrom Abukhalimov and curator of the exhibition Naomi Verdon.

On an area of more than 400 square meters at the UNESCO headquarters, copies of the scientist’s works “Monuments of Past Generations”, “Astronomical Monographs”, “Al-Qanun Al-Masudi” and “India” are presented. Manuscripts that are still relevant today provide insight into the life and work of Abu Rayhon Beruni, his travels, discoveries, and research. Beruni’s legacy is a topic studied with special attention by world researchers. Undoubtedly, the exhibition project held in Paris, a city recognized as the world’s cultural capital, will arouse visitors’ interest and give new meaning to the country’s role in the formation and development of historical and cultural ties and scientific research.

Local and foreign guests, considering the multimedia exhibition prepared by specialists from the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, presenting rare copies of manuscripts belonging to the National Library of France, noted that these books will further enrich the information available at UNESCO, collected over many years, and will popularize a great scientific-spiritual heritage of Abu Rayhon Beruni on a global scale.

– The exhibition project “Abu Rayhon Beruni. Geographical and Intellectual Journeys” is essential, – says Chairperson of the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan Gayane Umerova. – Representatives of the European public will receive detailed information about the famous scientist and his contribution to the development of humanity.
