Gold Embroidery and Handicraft Center “Malika Sulton” opens in Bukhara
The Gold Embroidery and Handicraft Center “Malika Sulton” has been opened in Bukhara, within the framework of the International Gold Embroidery and Jewelry and National Embroidery Art festivals.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Sayfullayev, Interim President of WCC-AISBL Sa’ad al-Qaddumi, Head of Bukhara region Botir Zaripov, Chairman of the Hunarmand Association Ulugbek Abdullayev.
The opening of the Gold Embroidery and Handicraft Center “Malika Sulton” is one of the important projects of the festival. Currently, more than 120 masters of this art are working in the region, and their products are recognized at many prestigious fairs around the world. The Center will play an important role in the further development of gold embroidery art established by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan of November 17, 2017 “On measures for further development of handicrafts and comprehensive support for artisans”.
In this Center, organized by entrepreneur and master jeweler Mahfuza Salimova, there is a gold embroidery workshop and a museum gallery of historical and modern samples of these products. Here, visitors are given detailed information about the history of the ancient art form, the present day, and the stages of development.
60 masters of gold embroidery and about 40 apprentices work here permanently. This testifies to the importance of the Center in ensuring the employment of women.
The center, which has taken a leading role in the development of regional gold embroidery, will in the future take the lead in studying the history of this ancient craft, restoring forgotten species, sewing techniques, and conducting scientific research.
An exposition of gold embroidery products is organized in this Center. Their ancient samples are being restored.
The center will be able to export gold embroidery products to the United States, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. At exhibitions and fairs held in 2021, a profit of $150 thousand was received from the demonstration and sale of gold embroidery products.
