163 new facilities commissioned ahead of Independence Day
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended a ceremony marking the commissioning of new facilities nationwide ahead of the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence.
The Head of State congratulated representatives of the public gathered at the regional studios and, through them, all compatriots on the upcoming national holiday.
Over the past decade, Uzbekistan has implemented large-scale reforms to advance human interests and improve the population’s well-being. Significant opportunities have been created for entrepreneurship, and extensive work has been carried out to diversify the economy, develop competitive industries, and improve infrastructure in remote areas and rural communities. Support for education, healthcare, and culture has reached a new level.
“The last ten years are forever inscribed in our country’s history as a period that laid the foundation for a new stage of national revival – the Third Renaissance”, the President noted.
During this period, the economy expanded by more than 2.5 times. The country drew in $160 billion in foreign investment, commissioned 2,163 major industrial projects totaling $76 billion, and created permanent jobs for approximately 6 million people.
Today, Uzbekistan is implementing many projects involving top global companies, major investors, and international financial institutions. As investment levels increase, the country’s industrial sector is experiencing a significant transformation.
“We are transitioning from a country focused on exporting raw materials to an economy capable of delivering finished products to global markets through deep processing of raw materials. Most importantly, alongside new enterprises, new technologies, and new professions, highly skilled jobs are emerging”, the Head of State noted.
This year alone, 56 major modern industrial and service facilities, valued at $1.7 billion, have been commissioned, creating 8,800 high-income jobs.
In addition, 46 trillion UZS allocated from the state budget have been used to build, repair, or reconstruct 385 schools, 113 kindergartens, 81 hospitals, 7,500 kilometers of roads, and 3,200 kilometers of water supply and sewerage networks.
During today’s ceremony, 72 major industrial and service projects, as well as 91 social facilities with a total value of nearly 50 trillion UZS, were commissioned across the country. Their commissioning became a worthy gift for Independence Day.
The new projects will create 15,000 jobs and generate an additional 1 trillion UZS in annual budgetary revenue.
The investment projects span key sectors such as energy, agriculture and the food industry, metallurgy, automotive manufacturing, electrical engineering, building materials, mining, textiles, and light industry.
In particular, generating facilities with a total capacity of 1,573 megawatts have been commissioned in Syrdarya region, while a 200-megawatt wind power plant and a 100-megawatt energy storage system have been put into operation in the Republic of Karakalpakstan. New energy projects in Navoi region will generate 657 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
The projects also feature new production facilities that will greatly boost the country’s export capacity. Textile, knitwear, and carpet manufacturing enterprises in Andijan, Namangan, and Jizzakh regions are expected to generate millions of dollars in exports. Additionally, new metallurgical plants in Samarkand and Tashkent regions will help expand industrial cooperation and promote import substitution.
The President emphasized that it would be wrong to evaluate today’s projects solely by investment and export indicators. Ahead of the new academic year, numerous modern social facilities are also being commissioned. These include 36 kindergartens, 43 schools, 7 higher education institutions, and 3 hospitals.
Among them is the modern complex of New Uzbekistan University, built to international standards on a 10-hectare site in New Tashkent. The complex provides learning facilities for 7,000 students.
In cooperation with Harvard University, the university has launched the School of Rectors. Together with the University of Oxford, an educational hub will be established to support the professional development of civil servants. The Institute of Artificial Intelligence will begin operations on October 1.
In addition, the new National Library, covering 30,000 square meters and spanning five floors, features state-of-the-art equipment. It can accommodate up to 1,500 readers at a time. The library includes more than 28 study rooms and halls, as well as conference halls of various capacities. Its collection comprises more than 200,000 books.
In the city of Karshi, modern buildings and facilities for the University of Economics and Pedagogy have been constructed at a total cost of 400 billion UZS. The university will educate 3,000 students, and 700 people will receive income-generating employment.
A new modern medical facility in Fergana region can treat 60,000 patients and screen 30,000 women annually.
The Head of State highly praised the contributions of investors and entrepreneurs to the creation of the new facilities.
“Every investment you make strengthens the foundation of Uzbekistan’s future. Every job you create supports families’ well-being. Every product you manufacture elevates our country’s economic potential. Every product you export strengthens Uzbekistan’s competitiveness in the global market”, the President noted.
The President expressed gratitude to builders, engineers, designers, entrepreneurs, and investors who demonstrated dedication to implementing these projects.
