SCO energy ministers meet in Bishkek
Bishkek hosted a meeting of energy ministers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states.
Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, attended the meeting.
According to the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, the parties discussed strengthening regional cooperation in the energy sector, improving energy efficiency, developing renewable energy sources, and introducing modern technologies.
Particular attention was paid to prospects for advancing cooperation among SCO member states in the energy sector to a qualitatively new level, the rational use of resources, and training highly qualified specialists for the industry.
Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov placed particular emphasis on the President of Uzbekistan’s initiative to establish an Energy Consortium of the SCO member states. A draft Concept was presented, and it was noted that the new structure would enable more effective coordination of joint projects, strengthen energy security, and expand mutually beneficial cooperation among the participating countries. The parties agreed to continue working jointly on the document to improve it.
In addition, the Kyrgyz side proposed establishing a regional center in Bishkek for SCO member states specializing in the introduction of energy-efficient and resource-saving technologies.
The participants emphasized the importance of the rational use of the region’s hydropower potential to ensure energy security and support joint projects aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
