CIS countries strengthen cooperation
A meeting of the Council of Heads of Customs Services of the CIS Member States was held in Kazakhstan.
Akmal Mavlonov, Chairman of the Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, attended the meeting.
The participants discussed strengthening international cooperation in the customs sector, expanding the use of digital technologies, improving risk-management systems, and enhancing the effectiveness of efforts to combat customs violations.
The parties exchanged experiences on the use of information technologies, modern software solutions, and advanced digital developments in the work of customs authorities. Particular attention was paid to the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies into customs practice and to expanding information exchange.
The agenda also covered the effective use of inspection systems, the application of modern methods for analyzing X-ray images, and the study of best practices for detecting goods concealed in vehicles. The parties agreed to train specialists, establish a unified database to improve artificial intelligence systems, and expand cooperation.
It was noted that such cooperation contributes to the introduction of effective mechanisms to combat smuggling, to improve the controlled delivery system, and to strengthen regional security.
At the meeting, the updated composition of the Working Group on Commodity Classification was approved. Ruziboy Ruziyev, Head of the Central Customs Laboratory of the Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was elected Deputy Head of the Working Group. A list of customs officers nominated for a commemorative badge established by the Council to mark the CIS’s 35th anniversary was also approved. The list included eight representatives of Uzbekistan’s customs service.
Following the meeting, the parties discussed future cooperation and announced the initiation of efforts to draft a Memorandum of Understanding to improve transit shipments among the customs authorities of CIS Member States.
The upcoming Council meeting is planned to take place in Belarus during the second half of this year.
