Uzbekistan and China sign new agreements on the modernization of hydroelectric power plants
Modernization of the energy system, in particular the development of hydropower, plays a key role in ensuring sustainable economic growth in the country and increasing the use of environmentally friendly energy sources.
In recent years, major projects have been consistently implemented in Uzbekistan to upgrade existing hydroelectric power plants, increase their efficiency, and introduce advanced technologies. Expanding international cooperation, attracting best practices, and investments remain priorities in this process.
As part of ongoing activities, Uzbekhydroenergo JSC signed new agreements for the modernization of hydroelectric power plants, marking a significant step in the development of the hydropower industry.
The signed agreements aim to develop strategic cooperation between Uzbekhydroenergo JSC and Sinohydro, a large international engineering company in China, which was selected as the winner through open and transparent tenders. The company fully complies with established technical and quality requirements and has significant industry experience.
According to the agreement, the modernization project of the Shakhrikhan HPP cascade – HPP-5A and HPP-6A in Andijan region will be implemented on EPC (turnkey) terms.
According to Hulkar Jurayeva, chief specialist at the Uzbekhydroenergo Information Service, implementing these measures will significantly increase the HPP’s capacity and overall efficiency, modernize its technological and control systems, and ensure the sustainable operation of energy facilities.
