Geordie Greig becomes familiar with Uzbekistan’s tourism potential
Geordie Greig, Editor-in-Chief of The Independent, paid an official visit to Uzbekistan. The visit by an influential representative of the international media community is considered a significant step toward promoting the country’s tourism potential and developing global media cooperation.
Geordie Greig, who has more than 35 years of experience in the world’s leading media, leads The Independent, one of the largest digital publications, with a worldwide audience of millions.
During the visit, the guest became familiar with Uzbekistan’s tourist infrastructure, cultural heritage, and the development of creative industries. The program covered key destinations, including Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva.

In Tashkent, Geordie Greig also visited the Islamic Civilization Center, Rakhimov’s Ceramic Studio, the Okhun Guzar Tourist Street, and the Namuna Art Residence, and took part in several cultural events.
In Samarkand, the guest visited the UNESCO World Heritage sites, including Registan, the Gur Emir Mausoleum, and the Imam al-Bukhari Complex, as well as the modern Silk Road Samarkand Tourist Cluster.
In Bukhara, the program included visits to the historic center, craft workshops, and art spaces that reflect the region’s rich cultural heritage.
The final destination was Khiva, where Geordie Greig visited the Ichan-Kala Open-Air Museum and the city’s key architectural monuments.
Special attention was paid to the gastronomic direction during the visit: the guest became familiar with traditional Uzbek cuisine and modern culinary projects.
Following the trip, it is expected that potential publications in the international media will contribute to growing interest in Uzbekistan as a tourist destination, strengthen its image, and expand its presence in the global tourism market.
