Prestigious forum opens in Samarkand
A global forum titled “Countering transnational drug threats to public health and security” has begun in Samarkand. The forum is organized by the Drugs and Firearms Control Agency under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
At the opening of the forum, an address by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the participants was read out by the Head of the Presidential Administration Saida Mirziyoyeva.
The address notes that the country is working to combat drug-related crime and prevent its spread, identify and prevent drug addiction, and cooperate with more than 50 states and international organizations to counter drug crime. To further improve work in this area, the Head of State put forward important initiatives.
At the forum, Bo Mathiasen, Director at the Division for Operations of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, delivered a speech.
The event is also attended by representatives of the United Nations, the European Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the World Health Organization, the World Customs Organization, and more than 20 other authoritative international organizations, as well as heads of law enforcement agencies from nearly 50 countries and over 500 international experts and specialists in the field.
