Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) held its annual graduation ceremonies on the 18th and 19th November for the Class of 2020 and Class of 2021 respectively. The ceremonies took place at the Palace of Railway Workers in Tashkent.
This is the 16th time in its 19-year history that WIUT held graduation ceremonies according to British University tradition.
In total, 1,593 bachelor and postgraduate students graduated from both years, 708 students from the Class of 2020 and 885 students from the Class of 2021. These were the biggest numbers of graduates in the history of WIUT to date. All graduates received their degrees from the University of Westminster in London in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Westminster, Dr. Peter Bonfield.
During the Graduation Ceremony on the 19th November, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Employability of the University of Westminster, Professor Alexandra Hughes, presented the award of an Honorary Doctorate to Dr. Komiljon Karimov, First Deputy Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The Rector of Westminster International University in Tashkent, Bakhrom Mirkasimov, presented the award of the Honorary Fellowship to Dr. Kamiljon Akramov, Senior Research Fellow at Development Strategy & Governance Division of the International Food Policy Research Institute.
For this year’s graduation ceremony, WIUT presented two new awards, milestones in the history of the longest-standing International University in Tashkent. The first award of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) was presented to Dr. Anvar Gafurov. The Rector’s List Award was presented to the highest scoring performing graduate from each of its Schools – School of Business and Economics (SOBE) and School of Law, Technology and Education (SOLTE). Azizakhon Kosimova, BSc (Hons) in Economics with Finance and, Ulugbek Nazarov, BSc (Hons) in Business Information Systems, were the two graduates who excelled in their studies and received this prestigious award.
All ceremonies were attended by graduates, their families as well as government representatives, ambassadors and representatives from international financial organizations.
