Uzbekistan’s athletes spark a medal rush, achieving historic triumphs on the tatami, mat, and in the ring
Uzbekistan added to its success on the 13th day of competition at the 20th Asian Games, held in Japan. The country’s athletes won nine medals: four gold, two silver, and three bronze.
The day’s top results came in boxing, judo, and WT taekwondo. Boxers Turabek Khabibullayev and Abdumalik Khalokov, judoka Muzaffarbek Turaboyev, and taekwondo athlete Jasurbek Jaysunov each won gold.
Jakhongir Zokirov won silver in boxing, while Ozoda Sobirjonova finished second in WT taekwondo. Humoyun Sultonov won bronze in tennis, and Sergey Rostovtsev and Nikita Tsvetkov won bronze in cycling, while Ernazar Sarsenboyev won bronze in judo.
Encouragingly, Uzbekistan’s boxing team finished the competition with seven medals – two gold, one silver, and four bronze.
The men’s national team played a major role in the overall boxing result, earning two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. The women’s team won two bronze medals. With these results, Uzbekistan’s men’s team finished first in the boxing team standings.
The day’s program also included two Uzbek athletes competing for bronze in women’s wrestling. Sevinchoy Polvonova faced a wrestler from Kyrgyzstan but could not secure a win.
By the end of the 13th day of the Asian Games, Uzbekistan won 65 medals: 20 gold, 23 silver and 22 bronze. The delegation currently ranks fourth in the overall medal standings.
