Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan MFA hold political consultations
Another round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan has taken place via videoconference.
On September 21, 2020, another round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan was held via videoconference, Uzbekistan MFA reports.
Delegations were led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.
The parties discussed the current state and prospects of further development of bilateral cooperation in political, trade, economic, scientific, technical, water management, transport, communication, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
It was noted that thanks to the strong political will and support of the leaders of the two countries, Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan relations have risen to a qualitatively new level and have acquired a steadily growing character.
The foreign ministers analyzed the progress in the implementation of previously reached agreements at the highest level and considered proposals on the timing of joint events, including the next round of Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, the first meeting of Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan Business Council.
Interest was expressed in enhancing communications in transport and transit. The ministers spoke in favor of the soonest implementation of Ashgabat agreement on formation of an international transport and communication corridor Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Oman.
During the talks, issues of interaction within the framework of multilateral structures, as well as the international and regional agenda, were considered, paying special attention to the Afghan problem.
The parties also exchanged views on joint efforts to combat the spread of coronavirus and minimize the impact of the pandemic on bilateral cooperation.
