Uzbekistan shared its experience at a UN event on the rights of older women
The delegation from Uzbekistan actively participated in the UN ministerial roundtable meeting on “Achieving Gender Equality and Empowering All Older Women”, held in New York in March.
The delegation included Gulnara Marufova, a member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis who works permanently in the Committee on Science, Education, and Healthcare, Deputy Chairperson of the Supreme Court Malika Kalandarova, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Family and Women Mukarram Nurmatova, and Deputy Director of the National Center for Human Rights Dilnoza Muratova.

During the discussion, participants addressed key challenges faced by older women: age discrimination, limited access to healthcare, social services, and justice.
Special focus was given to the necessity of incorporating a gender-sensitive approach into social protection and pension programs.

At the event, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Family and Women of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mukarram Nurmatova delivered a report, in which she thoroughly outlined the country’s comprehensive measures to support older women. She emphasized Uzbekistan’s efforts to strengthen the legal and institutional foundations of social protection, ensure adequate pension provision, and expand opportunities for older women to participate in social and economic life.
The Uzbekistan delegation also shared national practices and initiatives aimed at overcoming barriers for older women and examined successful international examples for potential national implementation.
