Uzbekistan explores tourism development with experts from the World Bank and AFD
Tashkent hosted a discussion on the preliminary draft of the project “Uzbekistan tourism: tourism areas, hubs and related routes – sector diagnostics and framework for territorial development”, with participation by specialists from the World Bank Country Office in Uzbekistan and experts from the French Development Agency’s (AFD) Tashkent office.
Representatives of the Infrastructure Development Department and the State Institution “Project Office for Tourism Infrastructure Development” under the Tourism Committee, as well as the Project Office’s Investment and International Cooperation Department, attended the discussion.
The discussion focused on comprehensive territorial development for tourism. The participants considered opportunities to develop tourism areas using the interconnected “Hub & Spoke” model, which supports the development of key tourism hubs and their effective integration with tourist attractions and routes in surrounding areas.
Particular attention was paid to the state of tourism infrastructure, transportation and engineering networks, the investment potential of the regions, and the distribution of tourist flows.
At the meeting, the parties also discussed strategies for the comprehensive development of tourism areas, improving their investment appeal, and establishing conditions for interconnected tourism routes.
