Uzbekistan – Belarus: Growing collaboration in nuclear energy
According to the Uzatom Agency, on April 6 in Minsk, Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Ramatov held discussions with Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Viktor Karankevich.
At the meeting, the parties recognized that the close, trusting relationship between the leaders of the two countries is a key factor in advancing joint initiatives of strategic importance.
High praise was given for Belarus’s experience in building and operating the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, as well as in developing the satellite city of Ostrovets with modern social and engineering infrastructure.

In turn, the Belarusian side acknowledged the extensive reforms underway in Uzbekistan under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s leadership, as well as the country’s active social and economic development, which provides a strong foundation for implementing major technological projects.
The Uzbekistan delegation proposed several ideas to strengthen practical cooperation. Notably, they discussed involving Belarusian specialists as technical consultants to support the nuclear power plant project in Uzbekistan. They also explored opportunities to apply Belarusian expertise to the construction of social facilities and a nuclear town in Jizzakh region.

The Belarusian side confirmed its willingness to support the presented proposals and expressed its intention to actively share its accumulated experience in building the necessary infrastructure for the nuclear sector.
Following the negotiations, the parties agreed to continue examining the Belarusian experience on-site.
On April 7, the government delegation visited Ostrovets to review the city’s infrastructure and the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant site.
