Uzbekistan and the WTO: what steps are being taken towards membership?

The University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) hosted a meeting with Sung-yo Choi, Chair of the WTO Working Party on the Accession of Uzbekistan, and Maika Oshikawa, Director of the WTO Accessions Division.

UWED Rector Sodiq Safoyev attended the meeting. The parties discussed Uzbekistan’s WTO accession process, economic and legislative reforms, and strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea.

Particular attention was paid to training specialists in international trade and trade diplomacy at the university, especially the development of the International Trade Law program. The participants also explored opportunities for joint research, international conferences and expert meetings involving UWED and the WTO.

Following the meeting, WTO representatives delivered a lecture to students on international trade and Uzbekistan’s accession to the organization.
