Uzbekistan and Russia discussed expanding the strategic partnership
The sixth meeting of the Joint Commission at the level of heads of government of Uzbekistan and Russia took place in Moscow.
The parties discussed implementing agreements reached at the level of the presidents of the two countries and reviewed measures to deepen bilateral cooperation, the press service of the Government of the Russian Federation reports.
The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin, noted that a stable, regular dialogue has been established between the two states at all levels. According to him, Russia remains one of Uzbekistan’s leading trade and economic partners: by the end of last year, mutual trade turnover had increased by nearly 12.5 percent and approached one trillion rubles.
Particular attention was paid to developing cooperation in the energy sector. In particular, the implementation of a project to construct a nuclear power plant using Russian technology has begun in Jizzakh region. Agreements were also reached to increase supplies of Russian oil and natural gas.
It was noted that more than 150 investment projects involving Russian capital, totaling over 4 trillion rubles, are underway in Uzbekistan. Key sectors include energy, light, chemical, and mining industries, as well as metallurgy. The pharmaceutical industry, telecommunications, logistics, and trade are also developing actively.
A separate negotiation block was devoted to humanitarian cooperation. The parties noted the growth of cultural and educational exchanges and the holding of joint forums and festivals.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov, emphasized that the strategic partnership between the two countries has reached an unprecedented level and spans key areas, from trade and industrial cooperation to the humanitarian sphere.
According to him, Russia remains one of Uzbekistan’s key foreign economic partners. Over the past five years, trade between the countries has doubled and, by the end of 2025, exceeded $13 billion. At the same time, in the first two months of the current year, mutual trade increased by 30 percent.
The parties emphasized the importance of developing international transport corridors to facilitate access to new markets.
Following the meeting, Mikhail Mishustin and Abdulla Aripov signed a joint communiqué confirming their readiness to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation.
