Uzbekistan and Oman to jointly address environmental challenges
During Oman Climate Week 2026, which is currently taking place in Oman, the Uzbekistan delegation met with Abdullah Al Amri, the Chairman of Oman’s Environment Authority.
The parties discussed prospects for expanding practical cooperation to address climate change and environmental protection.
The meeting also focused on the efficient use of water resources. The Uzbek side expressed interest in Oman’s experience with water desalination, groundwater recharge, and integrated water resources management.
Another key area of collaboration is combating desertification. Uzbekistan intends to set up a specialized center with an early warning system. During the meeting, the sides explored the potential to adopt Oman’s experience in this field.
The parties also discussed the potential of engaging Oman in the activities of the Central Asian Center for Biosaline Agriculture and Climate Resilience, which is scheduled to be established in Uzbekistan.
Particular attention was paid to youth participation in addressing climate change. It was proposed to establish cooperation between Oman’s youth climate platforms and Green University’s Climate Residency Program, as well as to conduct joint research and student exchanges.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Omani counterparts were invited to attend Eco Expo Central Asia 2027, to be held in Tashkent on June 15-17, 2027. The event will feature areas such as ecotourism, clean technologies, environmental education, reforestation, and renewable energy.
