Uzbek miniature art presented in Riyadh
A cultural evening and the opening of the exhibition “The miniature art: From Bukhara to Arabia – Stories Along the Routes of the Sacred” took place in Riyadh. The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Saudi Arabia organized the events as part of celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence.
The exhibition showcases Uzbek miniature art’s rich heritage to both Saudi and international visitors, highlighting its historical and cultural connections with the Arab world.
Diplomats, officials from Saudi ministries and government agencies, journalists, cultural and art personalities, artists, and miniature painting enthusiasts attended the event.
Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia Nodirjon Turgunov opened the event by highlighting the significance of culture and art in fostering mutual understanding and promoting cultural diplomacy. He noted that humanitarian relations are a crucial aspect of active cooperation, helping peoples better understand each other’s histories and traditions.
On the Uzbek side, Gulabza Karshiyeva, Director of the Museum of Oriental Miniature Art named after Kamoliddin Behzod, spoke about the history and contemporary development of miniature art in Uzbekistan, as well as measures to preserve, study, and promote it.
The exhibition showcases 35 works by Uzbek artists. Visitors can explore the distinctive techniques, themes, and characteristics of traditional miniature painting.
Special attention was also paid to fostering educational collaboration. Representatives from Saudi universities showed interest in forming a partnership with the National Institute of Fine Arts and Design. Potential avenues for collaboration include academic exchanges, student visits, joint research projects, and building professional networks among young artists and researchers from both countries.
Over the next two days, the exhibition will host practical master classes for 35 Saudi amateur artists and young practitioners. Guided by Uzbek specialists, participants will learn miniature painting techniques and create their own artworks.
