On May 18, a regular plenary meeting of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly took place.

The consideration of the draft resolution proposed by Uzbekistan on declaring the Aral Sea region as a zone of environmental innovations and technologies was included as the first issue on the agenda of the event.

The initiative to develop and adopt the resolution was put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2020.

The UN member states approved the document unanimously.

It was co-authored by about 60 states from various regions of the world, including Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Japan, Pakistan, Iran, India, Egypt, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Jordan, Oman, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Hungary, Romania, Algeria, Paraguay and others.
