On 26 January 1992, diplomatic relations were established between the Republic of Uzbekistan and Japan. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries exchanged congratulatory messages on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of this event.

“Uzbekistan values ​​close and trusting relations with Japan, which we consider as a reliable friend and time-tested partner”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov noted in his message.

The interest of the Uzbek side in further maintaining a dialogue with Tokyo on the current issues of world and regional politics is emphasized.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Yoshimasa Hayashi assured that Uzbekistan for Japan is not only a friendly country with a long history of cooperation, but also an important strategic partner.

Mr. Hayashi informed about the strong support of the Japanese side for the large-scale reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan.

The high dynamics of Uzbekistan – Japanese strategic partnership is evidenced by the fact that since 2002, 18 rounds of political consultations have taken place between the Foreign Ministries of Uzbekistan and Japan.

In 2021, Mukhsinkhuja Abdurakhmonov was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Japan. Since 2019, Yoshinori Fujiyama has been the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan.
