A delegation from Uzbekistan, led by the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Nuriddin Ismailov attended the signing ceremony of the UN Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The President of Vietnam Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UN Under Secretary-General, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Ghada Waly, as well as about two thousand delegates from more than 100 countries, attended the event.

Uzbekistan was one of the states that actively participated in the drafting of the convention and in coordinating all stages of its preparation. The document aims to strengthen international cooperation in countering cybercrime and ensuring the security of the digital space.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has repeatedly stressed on international platforms that cybercrime is one of the key threats not only to national but also global security. According to him, the fight against this challenge requires the international community to consolidate its efforts, since no state can effectively counter this threat alone.

On behalf of the Government of Uzbekistan, the convention was signed by Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Nuriddin Ismailov.

Addressing the plenary session, he spoke in detail about the country’s state policy in information security and countering cybercrime, as well as about the large-scale reforms being implemented in this area.

The signing of the convention became a significant step in strengthening international cooperation and confirming Uzbekistan’s commitment to the principles of safe and sustainable development of the digital space.
