An online meeting was held between the Interparliamentary Group of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Cooperation with the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.

As noted during the meeting, the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, based on centuries-old friendship, good neighborliness, and close trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation, is developing on the principles of mutual respect and trust.

Both countries share similar views and positions on regional and international issues.

It was emphasized that the meeting between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held within the framework of the “Central Asia – European Union” summit in the city of Samarkand this April, was an important historic event.

The growing role of parliamentary diplomacy in interstate relations was noted as a factor that will contribute to further strengthening mutual trust and cooperation.

During the discussion, participants addressed issues such as enhancing interparliamentary dialogue and establishing regular contacts between members of the two countries’ parliaments. They also exchanged views on increasing the effectiveness of the Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan parliamentary friendship groups and on establishing joint parliamentary oversight over the timely and effective implementation of high-level agreements.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to develop a roadmap for upcoming bilateral meetings and events, as well as to identify new areas of cooperation.
