The role of diplomacy and international relations
Uzbekistan is actively pursuing a policy of external openness, expanding international relations, and strengthening cooperation with other countries. Diplomatic missions play a key role in this process, promoting the country’s cultural, economic, and tourism potential. Their activities help create a positive image of Uzbekistan and develop mutually beneficial cooperation across various fields, from science and education to business.
Pakistan. The Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Alisher Tukhtayev, held discussions with Muhammad Sohail Tabba, a Board Member of the Yunus Brothers Group and Head of the Tabba Group, regarding the entry of Pakistani businesses into Uzbekistan’s market. During the meeting, the Uzbek side discussed reforms in the textile and light industry, the activities of cotton and textile clusters, special economic zones, and the conditions for investors. Special attention was given to the potential to expand cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan and to the activities of the Uzbekistan Trade House in Karachi.
Geneva. A side event titled “Protection of Human Rights in the Digital Space” was held during the annual meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions. It was attended by ombudspersons from over 20 countries, along with representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations. Issues discussed included the digitalization of human rights institutions, the protection of personal data, the safeguarding of privacy, the prevention of discrimination and online violence, and challenges related to artificial intelligence. The event aims to share experiences and strengthen international cooperation.
Ankara. The O'zbek Sofrasi restaurant hosted a cultural event dedicated to Navruz. Over 160 migrant workers working in Türkiye participated in the celebration. They enjoyed traditional songs and dances, sumalak, and Uzbek pilaf. Artists from Uzbekistan created a festive atmosphere, and TRT Avaz correspondents broadcast the event. Dances will be featured on the Oynamayan Kalmasın TV channel in May.
Rome. A roundtable discussion on the geopolitical and economic potential of Central Asia took place at the Italian Society for International Organizations. The experts highlighted the region’s strategic importance to the EU and Italy and explored opportunities for cooperation. The monograph “Central Asia – rediscovering the region”, which focused on analyzing the region and its interactions with the outside world, was also presented at the event.
Budapest. The Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Oybek Shakhavdinov, met with Pálmai Gergely, Deputy State Secretary for Vocational Training at Hungary's Ministry of Culture and Innovation. They discussed long-term cooperation between the technical schools of both countries, including student and teacher exchanges, joint educational programs, and the development of a dual training system that combines theory and practical experience. The Hungarian side suggested holding online expert talks to clarify the details of the joint project.
Ashgabat. Ambassador Ravshanbek Alimov met with Maksat Charyyev, the Rector of the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages. During the meeting, the parties discussed expanding academic exchanges, developing joint educational programs, and strengthening scientific cooperation. Special attention was given to studying and promoting the heritage of great thinkers – Alisher Navoi, Babur, and Magtymguly Fragi – highlighting the importance of cultural and educational events to enhance spiritual bonds between peoples.
