On October 30, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will take part in the opening ceremony of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, in Samarkand.

For the first time in forty years, this historic session of the General Conference is being held outside UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris. Hosting such a large-scale international forum in Samarkand stands as a vivid confirmation of Uzbekistan’s commitment to the ideals and values of the Organization, as well as its determination to actively contribute to the development of global dialogue for peace, mutual understanding, and sustainable progress.

As part of this landmark session, more than 150 events in various formats are planned to discuss key issues in education, science, culture, ecology, technology, and communications.

The organization of such a representative international event in one of the world’s most ancient and magnificent cities carries special symbolic significance. It reflects the international community’s high level of trust in Uzbekistan, its growing authority, and its active role in promoting intercultural dialogue, preserving historical and cultural heritage, and developing humanitarian cooperation.

High-level delegations from more than 200 countries and international organizations will take part in the event, including the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, the President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, and other distinguished guests.

UNESCO is a specialized agency of the United Nations, established in 1945, to strengthen peace and security through international cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, and communication.

The Republic of Uzbekistan became a full member of UNESCO in 1993. In 1996, the Organization’s representative office was opened in Tashkent, marking an important milestone in strengthening cooperation and multifaceted partnership between Uzbekistan and this esteemed international institution.
