On September 25, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Samarkand to attend the events of the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
The President of Uzbekistan will address the plenary session of the meeting and hold several meetings on the sidelines of the forum.
It should be noted that the main theme of the ninth meeting of the Board of Governors will be “Building Resilient Infrastructure for All”. Current issues on the global economic agenda will be considered, and strategic programs and plans for infrastructure development in Asia and other regions will be discussed.
High-level delegations from more than 100 countries, heads and representatives of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and other international institutions, top managers of leading foreign companies, and authoritative experts will take part in the two-day summit in Samarkand. In total, about 2 thousand delegates are expected to participate.
Uzbekistan became a member of the AIIB in November 2016.
In recent years, Uzbekistan has been one of the largest beneficiaries of the bank. The portfolio of implemented and ongoing projects exceeds $3 billion. It covers priority areas such as green energy, road and transport and municipal infrastructure modernization, education and healthcare, and support for the private sector.
