The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, received an Italian delegation led by the President of Lombardy, Attilio Fontana, who arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the Tashkent Investment Forum.
Lombardy is one of Italy’s most populous and largest regions and ranks among Europe’s most economically developed areas.
Practical aspects of mutually beneficial cooperation were discussed in trade, economic, and investment spheres.
The fruitful outcomes of the recent talks in Samarkand with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni were noted with deep satisfaction, during which an agreement was reached to support interregional contacts.
Currently, projects with Lombardy-based companies are being successfully implemented in Uzbekistan in tomato and saffron cultivation, the production of non-woven materials and knitwear, and food products. Projects under development include manufacturing finished textiles, automotive electronics, construction materials, processing dairy and fruit and vegetable products, public transport development, and more.
The importance of increasing the portfolio of joint projects and attracting advanced Italian technologies and investments into various sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy was emphasized.
An agreement was reached to hold an exhibition in Milan showcasing Uzbekistan’s industrial and export potential, to open a trade house, and to launch an export line under the brand “Uzbek Organic”.
To further expand cultural and humanitarian exchange, plans are underway to organize an exhibition of Uzbekistan museum artifacts in Milan in 2026.
In turn, the President of Lombardy expressed sincere gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for the comprehensive support provided to the projects and initiatives of Lombardy’s business community. He confirmed his readiness to actively promote full-scale business partnerships with the regions of Uzbekistan.
Following the meeting, the Head of State wished Attilio Fontana success in preparing and hosting the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.
