Zulaykho Mahkamova, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Chairperson of the Family and Women Committee, held a meeting with Begoña Lasagabaster, Director of UNESCO’s Gender Equality Division, as part of the event “Advancing Gender Equality through Multilateral Cooperation” held in Samarkand.
The parties explored ways to strengthen cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNESCO to support women, enhance their socio-economic activity, and promote gender equality.
The main topic of the meeting was the vital initiative proposed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference to establish a UNESCO Academy for Women’s Leadership.

The parties discussed in detail the concept of creating the Academy, its potential as an international platform, and the implementation of joint programs in this field.

Practical directions were also identified to expand women’s participation in education, science, culture, and digital technologies, enhance their leadership skills, and introduce best practices.
