Tashkent hosts an International Forum on “Youth Rights: Opportunities and Protection Mechanisms”.
This international conference is held on the eve of October 24, a historical date declared by the world community as United Nations Day, as part of a program of events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan of May 12, 2023.
Opening the forum, First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Director of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights Akmal Saidov, emphasized the special significance of the conference:
“First, the Central Asian Youth Forum is held within the framework of the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 30th anniversary of the Vienna World Conference on Human Rights;
second, it symbolizes solidarity and cooperation in ensuring the rights of youth in the Central Asian region, where almost half of the population is youth;
third, the forum is held as part of the implementation of the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, put forward at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly on the creation of a Working Group on promoting the development of youth in Central Asia at the UN;
fourth, more than 500 young people from the countries of our region are taking part in this international event, including members of the youth parliament, leaders of youth organizations, and active modern people as well as students of higher education institutions from all regions of our country".
The results of the consultations with young people will be used to develop the draft declaration Youth Rights 75, which will be presented at a high-level event in Geneva in December 2023.
