Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan deepen alliance built on enduring friendship
Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are actively strengthening relations built on centuries of shared history, spiritual affinity and mutual trust. Today, cooperation between the two brotherly nations goes beyond traditional friendship, taking on growing political, economic and regional significance. Recently signed bilateral documents underscore this progress and aim to deepen cooperation across various fields.

Samir Valiyev, a Member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, spoke about the prospects for developing relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, the significance of the agreements reached and the strengthening of interstate partnership.
“Thanks to the forward-looking policies of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, relations between the two countries have reached a new level. Agreements concluded based on reciprocity have also made a significant contribution to strengthening bilateral ties.
On August 23, 2024, the leaders of the two countries signed the Treaty on Allied Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan in Tashkent. The document established the legal framework for elevating bilateral relations to a strategic alliance.
Mr. Valiyev recalled that several important documents were also signed during President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Uzbekistan in August this year. These included the Treaty on Eternal Friendship and the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Pension Provision between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
“Both documents were ratified at a session of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis held on November 3. The Treaty on Eternal Friendship, comprising 11 articles, aims to strengthen friendship, strategic partnership and allied relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, as well as develop cooperation across various fields”, Mr. Valiyev said.
He added that one of the treaty’s most significant provisions establishes mutual commitments to safeguard each other’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
The treaty’s emphasis on expanding interparliamentary ties is also important. The document will help develop relations between the parliaments of the two countries.
Regarding the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Pension Provision between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Samir Valiyev noted that the main objective of the 26-article document is to develop cooperation between the two countries in the field of pension provision and protect citizens’ pension rights.
The signed documents will help strengthen not only political ties but also economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
