The 11th meeting of the Uzbekistan – Russia Interparliamentary Commission takes place
The 11th meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation took place in Khorezm region.
The meeting of the commission was chaired by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Sodiq Safoyev, and the First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, Iliyas Umakhanov.
The current state and promising priority areas of inter-parliamentary relations were discussed at the meeting.
The parties exchanged views on expanding cooperation in trade and the economy, investment, industry, energy, transport and logistics, agriculture, high technology, and personnel training.
As noted at the event, the volume of mutual trade between the two countries is steadily growing, and the goal is to bring trade turnover to $30 billion.
At the meeting, it was emphasized that parliaments play a key role in supporting trade and economic cooperation. The need to reduce administrative barriers, protect investors’ rights, develop transport and logistics links, and create favorable conditions for entrepreneurship was highlighted.
Special attention was given to expanding humanitarian cooperation in education, science, culture, tourism, youth exchange, and healthcare. The implementation of the cultural cooperation program between the two countries, designed for 2024-2026, was noted.
Interregional partnership was highlighted as one of the most promising areas of practical cooperation. The importance of the parliaments’ assistance in strengthening ties between the twin regions, supporting joint projects, and exchanging experience in local government was highlighted.
The interparliamentary dialogue is an important mechanism for promptly resolving issues of concern to citizens and business representatives, expanding cooperation between regions, and effectively monitoring the implementation of agreements.
