The Institute for Macroeconomic and Regional Studies (IMRS) in Tashkent organized an urban forum dedicated to improving the urban environment and finding solutions to existing challenges.
As noted during the event, urbanization significantly impacts the economic growth of cities and the improvement of residents’ quality of life. To achieve this, it is essential to develop infrastructure, protect the environment, enhance public transportation systems, and create accessible social services for the population. The forum analyzed measures to implement the priority objectives outlined in the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy in this area.
According to the Chair of the Association of Young Architects of Uzbekistan, Takhmina Turdialiyeva, the forum is a platform for discussing pressing urban development issues, exploring solutions, and studying best practices.
“This year, the forum is being held for the second time. Last year’s event demonstrated that urban planning issues attract significant interest not only from specialists but also from the public, entrepreneurs, and government agencies. The need to transform cities into comfortable environments not only in terms of functionality but also in psychological and social aspects was emphasized. Participants exchanged views on the green economy, digitalization, sustainable development, and creating an inclusive environment”, Ms. Takhmina Turdialiyeva said.
The participants also addressed ways to enhance the investment appeal of urban areas, create jobs, implement new technologies, and expand green spaces.
“The Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy aims to increase urbanization to 60 percent and transform Namangan and Samarkand into million-plus cities. Additionally, districts with populations exceeding 300,000 will rise to 28. This process requires making cities more attractive, improving infrastructure, and developing them based on green economy principles in accordance with regional urbanization master plans. The forum is dedicated to these objectives, providing a platform for participants to discuss key topics such as creating comfortable living conditions in cities and integrating modern architectural solutions”, IMRS project leader Sukhrob Makhmudov noted.
