Saida Mirziyoyeva: “CCA Tashkent will serve as a new platform for developing contemporary art”

Tashkent hosted the opening ceremony of the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA Tashkent), which features exhibition halls, a library, a concept store, educational areas, and spaces for meetings and research. This all-in-one approach makes it the first of its kind in Central Asia.

The Centre occupies a former diesel power station built in 1912. The international architecture firm Studio KO undertook the historic building’s architectural makeover.

The Centre’s program is expected to feature exhibitions, research projects, lectures and discussions, film screenings, concerts, and performances.

Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Administration of the President of Uzbekistan, highlighted that Uzbekistan now has another modern platform at this level. CCA Tashkent will collaborate with artists, curators, and international organizations to help local artists reach new audiences and increase their visibility abroad.

According to her, the Centre’s establishment was made possible by the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan and the work of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation.
