Role of civil society institutions in democratic development

Samarkand hosts the Central Asian Civil Society Forum on the role of civil society institutions in democratic development, the experience of Uzbekistan and Central Asian countries.

The event, organized by the Center for Analysis of Democratic Processes, gathers around 200 experts, including international specialists and think tank representatives from countries such as the United States, Canada, Belgium, the UK, Hungary, Germany, Spain, France, Sweden, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, India, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan, along with representatives from public organizations, research institutes, government agencies, and media of Uzbekistan.

Speakers at the plenary session included Azamat Pardayev, Director of the Center for Analysis of Democratic Processes, Sabine Machl, the UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan, Rustam Kobilov, Deputy Hokim of Samarkand region, and representatives of the forum’s international partner organizations.

The forum’s main program will continue with nine thematic sessions. Participants will discuss Uzbekistan’s and Central Asia’s experiences, consider common trends in democratic development, analyze existing challenges, and identify promising areas for further work.
