At a meeting of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Ties, Foreign Investment and Tourism, a draft law to ratify the Agreement between the Government of Uzbekistan and Jordan on the transfer of detainees, signed in Samarkand on August 26, 2025, was preliminarily reviewed.
The Agreement establishes the procedures, grounds, and conditions for the transfer of persons to bring them to criminal responsibility or to enforce a sentence issued against them.
During the meeting, participants discussed the document’s legal significance, its role in combating economic and organized crime, and its contribution to expanding international cooperation in this area.
The senators noted that adopting the law would strengthen the Republic of Uzbekistan’s international cooperation in combating transnational crime, terrorism, and organized crime, and ensure a balance between national security and human rights.
Following the discussion, which was attended by senators, members of the standing commissions of local Councils of People’s Deputies, representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, legal scholars, experts, and media professionals, an appropriate decision was adopted.
