On 2 February, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan – the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed Haneef Atmar and Head of the Administration of the President Mohammad Shaker Kargar.

Current issues of further enhancing multifaceted cooperation between the two countries were discussed at the meeting.

The President of Uzbekistan emphasized the importance of maintaining the current dynamics of the development of bilateral relations and practical implementation of previously reached agreements.

First of all, we are talking about creating favorable conditions for increasing the trade turnover and reaching the level of at least $2 billion in the coming years, strengthening cooperation in industry, energy, agriculture and logistics, and implementing important programs in healthcare, education and culture.

Members of Afghanistan delegation sincerely thanked the leader of Uzbekistan for the warm welcome and conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of the President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani.

They also expressed deep gratitude for the resolute efforts of the Uzbek side aimed at ensuring peaceful life and sustainable development in Afghanistan.

The fruitful results of the first meeting of the trilateral working group on the Trans-Afghan Railway Construction Project, held today in Tashkent with the participation of the heads of leading international financial institutions, were highly appreciated.

At the meeting, the parties noted the importance of early preparation and start of practical implementation of this project, active involvement of foreign partners and potential investors, based on the adopted roadmap.
