President of Uzbekistan discusses development of cooperation with the UN Secretary-General
On the sidelines of the SCO summit in Bishkek, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
The UN Secretary-General sincerely congratulated the President and the people of Uzbekistan on the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence, wishing them peace, well-being, and prosperity.

The discussion covered issues related to expanding and strengthening cooperation with the United Nations and its institutions.
The President of Uzbekistan highly appreciated António Guterres’ personal contribution to developing multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN. Support was expressed for the Secretary-General’s initiatives to reform the United Nations system.

The intensive dialogue and exchange of visits, as well as Uzbekistan’s growing participation in the activities of the UN’s elected bodies, were noted with satisfaction. In recent years, 15 resolutions initiated by Uzbekistan have been adopted by the UN General Assembly.
António Guterres welcomed Uzbekistan’s significant achievements in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals. Readiness to continue active cooperation in this area was reaffirmed.

During the meeting, views were exchanged on current issues on the international and regional agendas. The schedule of upcoming joint events was also reviewed.
