An international festival of active and extreme sports tourism took place at the recreation center in Samarkand region’s Oqbuyro mahalla.

The festival, organized jointly with the Tourism Development Department and the district hokimiyat, featured paragliding and hot air balloon flights, auto and motorcycle drift shows, national equestrian competition, folklore performances, and a cultural program.

About 200 participants from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, the Republic of Korea, India, and fellow compatriots who are fans of extreme tourism demonstrated their skills. National folk games competitions were organized.

It was noted that the activities related to tourism development are expanding every year, and more favorable conditions are being created for local and foreign travelers. Now this territory will become a place for year-round extreme tourism.

According to the Presidential Resolution of February 6, 2024, the Okhalik – Oqbuyro – Mirankul Tourist-Recreational Zone with a total area of 4,656 hectares will be created on the territory of the Okhalik, Oqbuyro, and Mirankul mahallas in Samarkand region. The Directorate of the Tourist and Recreational Zone, a state institution, has been established under the district administration to develop and manage this project. Several projects are currently being implemented in this area.

Samarkand region’s Acting Hokim, A. Boboyev, stressed that various festivals will be held weekly to develop regional tourism.
