New Year fir trees put up in six squares of Samarqand city

Samarqand Region’s towns and villages are intensively preparing to celebrate the New Year holiday with a lifted spirit.Regional, town and district hokimiyats (governorates) have set up special working groups to arrange holiday events at a high level and to make sure that these are held in a peaceful and calm atmosphere. These groups are taking the necessary measures to ensure public order, traffic and fire safety in places where festivities and trade fairs are to be held and to prevent the sale of pyrotechnical items. Law enforcement agencies and representatives of the public are also involved in this work.
New Year fir trees have been put up in the central squares of all the districts and towns of the region. And trade fairs have started working offering various goods including foodstuffs. Theatrical performances and cultural programmes are being shown.
The central streets of the city of Samarqand as well as the buildings of enterprises and organizations there have been decorated properly for the New Year holiday. Night illuminations and decorative lights have been installed. According to a tradition, this year, too, a contest has been announced for “The best decorated fir tree”, “The most beautiful building” and “The most exemplary street”. It is envisaged to hold festivals of Oriental sweets and national dishes.
“The main New Year fir trees have been put up in six places in the city, and cultural programmes are being shown involving prominent artistes and young performers of Samarqand,” says K.Mizomov, chief of the culture and sports directorate of Samarqand Region.
Presidential fir tree events are held traditionally in all the towns and districts of the region at a high level. Various cultural programmes are being put together to make the holiday events unforgettable.
Agricultural trade fairs were arranged in marketplaces in the run-up to the holiday. At these trade fairs, farms, agro-firms and poultry enterprises are offering fruits and vegetables, meat, fish and eggs at prices lower than market prices.
At such a trade fair in the Siyob marketplace, farms from Pastdarghom, Kattaqorghon and Tayloq Districts are putting on sale their good quality agricultural products.
