New approaches to digitizing Islamic heritage presented
An international conference titled “Equipping the Islamic World for the Future: Presentation and Adaptation of the Strategic Foresight Guide” was held in Baku. The ICESCO Regional Office organized the event in collaboration with the Center for Foresight and Artificial Intelligence (CFAI).
Rustam Jabborov, the Academic Secretary of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan, participated in an international conference and presented a report titled “Islamic Civilization in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Heritage Preservation, Digital Transformation, and International Cooperation”.
The report specifically highlighted the activities of the Islamic Civilization Center, which was founded at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Mr. Jabborov highlighted that with the swift progress of artificial intelligence, Big Data, digital technologies, and virtual spaces, it is increasingly vital to safeguard Islamic civilization’s heritage and ensure its precise transmission to future generations. The proliferation of misinformation on social media, acts of Islamophobia, and the international trade of rare manuscripts demand new strategies for cultural preservation.
Mr. Jabborov emphasized that protecting cultural heritage today is a collective effort that involves international cooperation, legal measures, digital innovations, and artificial intelligence capabilities, extending beyond museums and archives.
Significant focus was given to digital transformation prospects. The speaker indicated that over the next 20-25 years, artificial intelligence technologies will become crucial for digitizing, analyzing, and restoring manuscripts, as well as translating them into multiple languages. Meanwhile, museums will slowly transform from merely storage spaces for exhibits into vibrant intellectual hubs for creating and sharing knowledge.
