
As part of a working visit to Sweden, the Director of the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), Javlon Vakhabov, met with Dr. Torbjörn Becker, Director of the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE).
The meeting was also attended by Eldor Tulyakov, Director of the Development Strategy Center, and Umid Abidkhodjayev, Director of the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research, who represented the Republic of Uzbekistan as part of the delegation.
During the discussion, the parties exchanged views on current trends in the socio-economic development of Central Asia and Eastern Europe, paying particular attention to issues of sustainable growth, macroeconomic stability, institutional transformation, and the role of research organizations in ensuring a balanced and long-term reform strategy.
The parties discussed prospects for establishing partnerships between academic and research institutions in Central Asia and Sweden, including conducting joint applied research, educational exchanges, and expert seminars on pressing regional development issues.
Following the meeting, mutual interest was expressed in developing academic cooperation between the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA) and the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE) to strengthen analytical capacity, support economic transformations, and advance joint expert initiatives.
