A delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Bahodir Kurbanov, Chairman of the State Security Service, met in Kabul with Abdul Haq Wasiq, the Head of Afghanistan’s Intelligence.

The parties discussed issues related to ensuring peace and stability in the region, as well as Afghanistan’s integration as a full-fledged member of the international community. Participants highlighted the consistent position expressed by the President of Uzbekistan on the Afghan issue at the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and other prominent international forums.

Bilateral negotiations between the two countries continue actively in areas such as agriculture, irrigation, energy, transport, trade, and other sectors.

At the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, particular attention is being given to the implementation of economic and infrastructure projects in Afghanistan, as well as the continuation of humanitarian assistance, to involve the country in regional cooperation.

Participants in the meeting discussed cooperation on maintaining the inviolability of the Uzbekistan – Afghanistan border, further improvement of entry-exit procedures at border checkpoints, and joint efforts to combat drug trafficking and terrorism.

On the same day, meetings were also held with Afghanistan’s Minister of National Defense, Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob, and Minister of Interior, Sirajuddin Haqqani.

These meetings contribute to the development of relations between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan in a spirit of friendship and good neighborliness.
