Turkey’s Izmir hosts the first workshop for healthcare workers to raise awareness of COVID-19 and the vaccine development process.

The event is organized with the support of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Turkey. The workshop brings together medical experts from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan who are directly involved in the development of vaccines and academic research in countering the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the meeting, doctors are considering such issues as research on the stability of vaccines, stages of development and production of inactive vaccines, strategies for development and production of vector recombinant vaccines with adenovirus, development of plant-based recombinant vaccines, application criteria for clinical trials of vaccines and strategy for rapid development of DNA vaccines.

Turkish experts shared their experience in vaccine development. Among the specialized agencies are Mehmet Akif Ersoy Experimental Research Development & Training Center, Faculty of Medicine of Ege University, Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center, Faculty of Medicine of Hacettepe University, Faculty of Agriculture of Akdeniz University.
